Annette J. Campbell-White
Ms. Campbell-White is the Managing Member of MedVenture Associates I, II and III, which are venture capital partnerships formed in 1986, 1995 and 1998 respectively, for the purpose of making seed capital and early stage investments in the life sciences field, with particular emphasis on the medical devices sector. MedVenture Associates III, the most recent fund, which was formed in 1998, was capitalized at $78.5 million. From 1992 until 1994 Ms. Campbell-White was also General Partner of Paragon Venture Partners II, LP a $30 million venture fund, where her focus was also seed capital and early-stage life sciences investments. Ms. Campbell-White was a Venture Partner of USVP and a Special Limited Partner of InterWest Partners IV from 1990 to 1992.
Selected investments made by Ms. Campbell-White since 1986 which have resulted in successful IPOs or acquisitions at a value greater than $100 million include Ventritex, Inc., ReSound Corp., ArthroCare Corp., Coulter Pharmaceutical, Inc., ViCal, Inc., Glycomed, Inc., VidaMed, Inc., Cardiac Pathways Corp., Devices for Vascular Intervention, Inc., Total Pharmaceutical Care, Inc., Physiometrix, Inc., Abaxis, Inc., AneuRx Corp., PercuSurge, Inc., and Cardiovascular Imaging Systems, Inc.
From 1983-1985, Ms. Campbell-White was a Special Limited Partner of L. F. Rothschild, Unterberg, Towbin, working in corporate finance and venture capital in the life sciences area. Prior to that time, she was a securities analyst for Hambrecht & Quist, developing the health care business at H&Q between 1979 and 1983, and becoming a General Partner in 1981. Significant venture investments from that period include Home Health Care of America (later Caremark); Diasonics, Inc.; Xoma Corp. and LifeScan, Inc. Ms. Campbell-White also conceived of and organized the first H&Q life sciences investment conference in 1983.
Ms. Campbell-White's background includes management consulting in the biomedical area with SRI International and later, ownership and management of a small biomedical consulting firm, ECCO Consulting Group. Ms. Campbell-White began her career in strategic planning for the Medishield Division of British Oxygen Co., Inc. in London, England.
Ms. Campbell-White has a B.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering and a M.Sc. degree in Physical Chemistry, both from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. She also spent time at the University of Cape Town carrying out postgraduate studies in biomedical engineering.
Ms. Campbell-White currently serves on the Board of Directors of ArthroCare Corporation which is a publicly traded company. In addition, she serves on the Board of Directors of several privately held companies, as well as serving as a Board Member of the San Francisco Opera Association.
Ms. Campbell-White is a native of New Zealand and a citizen of the United States.
Trevor J. Powles, CBE, FRCP, PhD
Professor of Breast Oncology, Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research, London. Medical Director, Division of Common Tumours, Head of Breast Unit, Head, Breast Rapid Diagnostic and Assessment Centre, Royal Marsden Hospital, London.
Professor Powles trained at St Bartholomew's Hospital, the Hammersmith Hospital and the Royal Marsden Hospitals in London. He has been a visiting professor at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, Boston and at Tom Baker Cancer Centre, University of Calgary.
Professor Powles has a special interest in the diagnosis of breast cancer including techniques of molecular diagnosis, the prevention of breast cancer, and primary medical treatment of breast cancer using chemoendocrine therapy with monitoring techniques using biological markers in the primary tumour. He has an extensive publication bibliography in these areas.
Bruns Grayson
Bruns Grayson, Managing Partner of ABS Ventures, began his career in venture capital with Adler & Co. in New York. He was with McKinsey & Co. in New York and Washington for several years before joining Adler in 1981.
Since joining ABS in 1983, Grayson has managed all of the ABS venture capital partnerships which have concentrated on investments in data communications, software and medical devices companies. He has been a director of many private and public companies.
Grayson is a graduate of Harvard College, Oxford University and the University of Virginia Law School. He was a Rhodes Scholar from California in 1974. He served in the US Army in Vietnam and separated as a Captain in 1970.
Christopher A. Bleck
Chris Bleck has more than 20 years of successful senior management, and sales and marketing experience in the medical device, diagnostic and pharmaceutical industries. Mr. Bleck currently is the President and CEO of Incept Biosystems a developer of innovative microscale technologies that provide fertility specialists breakthrough capabilities to treat infertility. Previously he served as President & CEO of Intact Medical Corporation. While at Intact Medical, Chris lead the development and commercialization breast biopsy and tissue excision devices for radiologists and surgeons. Prior to Intact Medical, Chris was Vice President, Worldwide Marketing and Vice President, Commercial Operations, for Cytyc Corporation, a diagnostic and therapeutic medical device company focused on women's health. In his positions at Cytyc, Mr. Bleck was responsible for a sales division of 200, and had full responsibility for the marketing and customer service teams. Prior to joining Cytyc, he spent 18 years in senior management at Abbott Laboratories, including positions as Corporate Vice President, Pediatric Products and President & General Manager, Abbott Canada. Mr. Bleck holds a B.S. degree in Pharmacy and an M.B.A. from The University of Connecticut.”
John F. Vacha
President and CEO
Mr. Vacha joined Intact Medical Corporation (FKA Neothermia) in November of 2000. Prior to assuming the role of President and CEO Mr. Vacha served as Vice President, CFO and Treasurer. During his tenure at Intact Medical John has overseen many aspects of the Company including Finance and Administration, Operations, MIS and Legal. Prior to joining Neothermia he served on the management team of Enermetrix, a privately held company servicing the needs of energy commodity brokers. He also worked for Deloitte & Touche LLP where his clients included closely held high-tech manufacturing start-up companies as well as large retail and manufacturing corporations.
Mr. Vacha is a licensed CPA in Massachusetts and holds both a Masters Degree in Business Administration and a Masters of Science in Accounting from Northeastern University. Mr. Vacha also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the South Boston Community Health Center.
